Mumbai: Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs took the organisers of the Unacademy Road Safety World Series by surprise giving away the complete South African Legends squad which will feature in the forthcoming five-nation T20 tournament organised to create awareness towards road safety in India.

Gibbs took the liberty to give away the complete squad even as the organisers were preparing to make the announcement through a press release in couple of days’ time.

Replying to a query from a South African fan on the composition of the South African Legends squad, the dashing former opener, known for his flamboyance while batting, in his usual no holds barred response gave away the complete squad which also includes himself, Jonty Rhodes, Lance Klusener among others.

“Who's all in the SA squad hersy?” asked Ashwin Conrad (@Ash_conrad), a self-proclaimed Everton FC, Cape Cobras and South African fan.

Gibbs, from his Twitter handle @hershybru replied, “Rudolph, jonty, telemachus,Albie, Morne v Wyk, p Harris ,Martin vs Jaarsveld,Johanvd watt, nantie, hall, me, Zulu, g kruger , Ryan Maclaren.”

It remains to be seen whether the organisers will impose a fine or pull up the former right-hander who has close to 15,000 international runs from 361 international games (90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is). But, coming to play in a series where “safety” is the main theme, what Gibbs did can be very well termed as “jumping the signal” if not “jumping the gun”.

The revelation of the strong South African Legends line-up however has left the fans amused and excited at the prospects of the line-ups of the remaining four team—Australia, West Indies, Sri Lanka and India.

The Road Safety World Series gets underway with India Legends facing the West Indies legends at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 7. The final is on March 22. All matches will be telecast live on Colors Cineplex and Viacom18’s digital platform VOOT.
