Ranchi: Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni visited the Ranchi stadium and interacted with the Virat Kohli-led team after the completion of the third Test on Tuesday (October 22).

India needed just two overs on the fourth day to defeat South Africa by an innings and 202 runs. With this, the hosts completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the Freedom Series (Gandhi-Mandela Trophy).

Dhoni visited the Indian dressing room after the victory at the JSCA Stadium Complex. The official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted a picture of Dhoni interacting with left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, who made his Test debut in the match.

Later, India head coach Ravi Shastri took to Twitter to praise Dhoni and posted a picture of the two together. He captioned it, “Great to see a true Indian legend in his den after a fantastic series win #Dhoni #TeamIndia #INDvsSA.”

Dhoni has not played for India since the ICC World Cup 2019 in England where the team exited at the semi-final stage after losing to New Zealand. After the tournament he had taken a break to serve in the Indian Army.

The Indian selectors will meet on Thursday (October 24) in Mumbai to pick the T20I squad for the three-match home series against Bangladesh. It is still not clear where Dhoni will be picked by the MSK Prasad-led panel.
