The 2021 Indian Premier League is on course for resumption in the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, in yet another replacement, Punjab Kings has roped in English spinner Adil Rashid to replace Australian pacer Jhye Richardson. The latter opted out to stay fit ahead of the ICC World T20 2021 in October.

It would be Englishman's maiden IPL stint. He is expected to join the side in Dubai on September 8, while he would be available for the entire tournament remainder. The franchise is expected to arrive in Dubai on Sunday and undergo the mandatory six-day quarantine before beginning training preparations.

Rashid went unsold during the IPL 2021 Auction last year, with a base price of ₹1.5 crore. He happens to be a consistent performer for England in the limited-overs circuit, having claimed 65 Twenty20 International wickets in 62 matches at an economy of 7.48.

He is currently ranked fourth in the ICC T20I Rankings. Besides him, PBKS has other spin options like Murugan Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Jalaj Saxena, Saurabh Kumar and Harpreet Brar.

However, Rashid is far more experienced and could be a genuine first choice, especially on the large grounds of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. He becomes PBKS's second replacement signing this season after Nathan Ellis replaced Riley Meredith.
