Sam Curran was the surprise package for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last night, as not just he was effective with the ball, but his quickfire 18 off just six deliveries seal he win for his side. Curran was roped in by CSK during the latest auction, for ₹550 lakh, having previously played for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
If there's someone who grabbed the attention on the opening day of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL), it was Sam Curran. On his debut with CSK, he stole the show, as he batted above Dhoni, while he did justice to being sent up the order.
Even with the ball and in the field, no one could keep Sam Curran out of the game. The short spells of electricity were enough to see CSK make breakthroughs and take the game away from Mumbai Indians (MI).
Curran started off with the ball, as he was effective and economical, finishing with figures of 1/28. He also claimed a couple of good catches to get rid of MI skipper Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav, allowing CSK to crawl back into the game after the former were off to a fine start.
When he came out to bat, CSK were in a desperate need to accelerate the innings, as his first ball six off Krunal Pandya set the pace for his short brisk. A quickfire knock of 18 off just six deliveries brought CSK back into the game again, as he set the platform for a comfortable win thereon.
Following the win, Curran took it to his Instagram handle, where he shared the picture of his team hurdle and captioned it "Great to make my debut for @chennaiipl and a great team performance to start off the tournament #whistlepodu".
Fans too expressed their happiness, as Curran not just helped CSK register a win, but he also helped the side register their 100th win under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Certainly, his performance sent a wave of shock across the fans, which could assuredly be termed 'Curran Shock'. The side takes on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday.
