India and England are locked 1-1 in the ongoing five-Test series for the Pataudi Trophy. India led the series 1-0 following its second Test win at Lord's before England bounced back in the following Test at Headingley in Leeds.

Following the third Test, there has been a mild activity in the ICC Test Rankings. English skipper Joe Root has claimed the top spot in the batsman's ranking. He was fifth before the series started while having already scored 507 runs in the series; it took him a quick time to claim the top spot, leading by 15 rating points.

Root has surpassed Virat Kohli, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson in the process. The last time he was at the top spot was back in December 2015.

On the Indian side, skipper Virat Kohli has been toppled by his teammate and senior opener Rohit Sharma. The latter has risen to the fifth spot, a place above the former and is seven rating points ahead.

Since 2017, Rohit has become the second man after Cheteshwar Pujara to rise above Kohli. Meanwhile, Pujara has risen three places to the 15th spot following his impressive knock of 91 in the third Test, while ahead of him is wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant at the 12th spot.

The fourth Test begins on Thursday at The Oval in London. The series would end at Old Trafford in Manchester from September 10.
