On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC World T20. However, besides the squad, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni was also roped in as the side's mentor.

While fans were ecstatic following the announcement of Dhoni's return to Team India in the new role, it also raised some eyebrows. It is to be noted that Kohli has failed to steer the side to a major title win in the International Cricket Council tournaments since taking over the reins from Dhoni.

"Former India Captain MS Dhoni to mentor the team for the T20 World Cup. Spoke to him in Dubai. He agreed to be mentor for WT20 only, and I discussed with my colleagues, and all are on same page. I spoke to captain and vice-captain, and everyone agreed," said BCCI secretary Jay Shah during the squad announcement.

Dhoni has managed to win three ICC titles, while his experience and tips for the side would be priceless. Also, with just six weeks remaining in the tenure of head coach Ravi Shastri, BCCI wants the side to go all out and wise under Dhoni's guidance. Notably, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is a massive admirer of Dhoni, and the latter's presence in the dressing room is sure to boost his morale.

However, it is also presumed that Dhoni's appointment also seems to be a warning sign for Kohli. Over the years, it has been reported that everyone on the side does not agree with Kohli's leadership philosophy and style, despite him being India's most successful Test skipper.
