Bengaluru: Birthday wishes poured in for former India captain MS Dhoni, who turned 39 today (July 7). Fans started trending #HappyBirthdayDhoni from last night on social media.

India captain Virat Kohli led the wishes from the cricket fraternity. “Happy b'day Mahi bhai. Wish you good health and happiness always. God bless you,” Kohli tweeted on Tuesday morning along with three pictures of him with Dhoni.

Dhoni has not played international cricket since the World Cup last year. He was last seen in Indian jersey in the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand in England. He was preparing himself to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). However, the Twenty20 tournament has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Former opening batsman Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to wish Dhoni. He wrote, “Once in a generation, a player comes and a nation  connects with him, think of him as a member of their family, kuch bahut apna sa lagta hai. Happy Birthday to a man who is the world ( Dhoni-ya ) for his many admirers. #HappyBirthdayDhoni (sic).”

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya wrote, “Happy birthday to my Bittu from your Chittu My friend who has taught me to be a better human being and stood by me in bad times @msdhoni #HappyBirthdayDhoni.”

Dhoni, who made his international debut in 2004, is the only captain in history to have won all the three ICC trophies (World T20 in 2007, World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013). So far, Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is.
