Team India suffered a hard fate as it faced the wrath of the English bowlers on Day 1 of the third Test of the 2021 Pataudi Trophy at Headingley in Leeds on Wednesday. It was bundled out for a mere 78, with only a couple of batters entering double figures.

Consequently, it turned out to be its ninth-lowest total in the longest format. Against England, it was its third-lowest and the lowest at the venue.

Following the tough luck, fans were left wondering what India's lowest Test totals have been. In the same light, we present the ten lowest Test totals of the side.

India's lowest total happens to be 36 against Australia in Adelaide last year, as India brutally lost the Test before bouncing back to win the series. Second, it happens to be against England at Lord's in 1974 when it was bundled out for 42.

The third and fourth lowest happen to be against Australia and England, respectively, being shot out for 58 on each occasion, in 1947 and 1952 at Brisbane and Manchester. Its fifth-lowest was 66 against South Africa in Durban in 1996.

Number six was against Australia again in Melbourne, 1948, shot out for 67. It is followed by 75 against the Windies in Delhi, 1987, and 76 against South Africa in Ahmedabad, 2008.

In the ninth spot is this game against England, succumbing to 78, while at number ten is 81 against the Windies in Barbados, 1997. Naturally, India lost all the games mentioned above.
