 Coronavirus pandemic is the biggest disaster faced by humanity in the last 100 years, PM Modi said.

India has reported 38,628 new Covid-19 cases, 40,017 recoveries and 617 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per health ministry bulletin.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai has announced weekend lockdown in bordering districts as both Kerala and Maharashtra have witnessed a spike in new infections and death cases due to Covid.The CM also said that the entire state will go into night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am. The rule will come into effect from tonight.

Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada bordering Kerala has witnessed a surge and with new Covid cases the positive rate is up over 5%. Out of 1,785 new cases, this district reported 337 cases and 4 deaths on Thursday. Following the surge, vigilance at checkposts has been intensified.

The Kerala government on Thursday launched a Covid-19 Death Information Portal that will maintain the exact records of every death due to coronavirus infection. The move comes on the backdrop of the allegation against the left government of trying to hide and downplay the Covid deaths in the state.

Johnson & Johnson's vaccine is a single-dose jab, whereas the three vaccines cleared by India so far are of double doses.

Kerala has been witnessing a surge in the cases, with 49.85% of the total Covid-19 cases in the country being reported from the southern state.

 In fact, several scientists who have been closely monitoring India's Covid graph say it could be that the second wave is not over and have noted the surge in a few pockets.  

 Negligence in the monitoring of Covid-19 patients in home isolation and not following central guidelines are among the reasons behind the high Covid-19 numbers in Kerala, a central team that visited the state has told the Union Health Ministry.

As over 250 daily Covid cases are being reported in Bengaluru from the last few days, with inflow of many people from neighbouring states Kerala and Maharashtra, the BBMP has imposed a night curfew to contain the spread. The night curfew will come into effect from 10 pm tonight and will be in place till 5 am.
