The first Oxygen Express with Liquid Medical Oxygen tankers is en route to Mumbai from Visakhapatnam.

Tankers filled with Liquid Medical Oxygen from the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam facility in Vizag are being transported using the Roll-on/roll-off service of the Indian Railways.

Each of the tankers has been loaded with 15 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, on Thursday night, took to micro-blogging site Twitter to post a video of the train preparing to pull out from the RINL facility.

Goyal posted, "The first 'Oxygen Express' train loaded with liquid medical oxygen tankers has left for Maharashtra from Vizag. Railways continue to serve the nation in difficult times by transporting essential commodities and driving innovation to ensure the well-being of all citizens."

Meanwhile, a second Oxygen Express began its journey from Lucknow to Bokaro to fulfil the requirements of Liquid Medical Oxygen in Uttar Pradesh.

A green corridor was created between Lucknow and Varanasi for the train's movement. The corridor enabled the train to cover 270Km in 4 hours 20 minutes with an average speed of 62.35 kmph.

During a review meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed that oxygen supply to various states should be unhindered and local administrations held responsible for instances of obstruction.

In his order on Thursday, Union Home Secretary AK Bhalla said that no restriction should be imposed on the movement of liquid medical oxygen between states. Transport authorities have been instructed to allow free inter-state movement of oxygen-carrying vehicles.
