The Karnataka government has rolled out new guidelines to control the surging cases of Coronavirus in the state.

These measures include suspension of classes for students not appearing in Board or university exams across the state.

In Bengaluru, where a majority of cases in the state are being reported, gymnasiums and swimming pools have been shut and all kinds of religious, political and social gatherings have been prohibited.

People can visit places of worship individually and offer prayers.

Besides, intake at cinema halls, pubs, restaurants and other places have been restricted to 50 per cent of the seating capacity in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kalburgi, Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Bidar and Hubli-Dharwad districts.

Boarding and residential hostels shall be shut down, except for classes 10, 11 and 12, and for students of higher and professional courses appearing inboard or university examinations.

The state government has directed that strict Covid-appropriate behaviour like wearing of masks and use of sanitisers will be enforced in public spaces like malls, pubs and cinema halls.

The new directives come after the state saw the number of new cases crossing the 4,000-mark this week for the first time in five months. Bengaluru is seeing the majority of the caseload.

The state is third among all states and Union Territories in India in terms of cumulative caseload.
