Days after the Narendra Modi government announced the setting up of 551 Pressure Swing Adsorption oxygen plants using the PM Cares Fund, another 500 such plants have been sanctioned.

The new PSA plants are expected to meet the Liquid Medical Oxygen requirement at hospitals in district headquarters and Tier 2 cities.
To enable rapid construction of these 500 PSA plants, DRDO and the CSIR will transfer indigenous technology to the domestic manufacturers.

The PMO, in a statement, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also sanctioned the procurement of 1 lakh portable oxygen concentrators using the PM Cares Fund.

The decision to undertake the capacity enhancement was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to discuss the measures needed to improve Liquid Medical Oxygen supply for Covid management.

The oxygen concentrators will be allocated to states with high case burden.
