The 12-year-old boy suffocated to death in his Bengaluru residence due to a leak in the LPG cylinder. The accused who refilled the cylinder was absconding but has now been arrested.
Bengaluru: HAL police arrested Fakruddin (52) who runs an LPG refilling unit on the charge of negligence which lead to the death of a 12-year-old boy. The boy, Sameer suffocated due to leak in an LPG cylinder in his home on Friday and his brother Shamshir was found unconscious.
The doctors had ascertained that the death was due to LPG cylinder leak. Shamshir will be discharged from hospital on Monday.
A senior police officer said that Fakruddin, who was absconding ever since the incident came to light, was arrested from his relatives’ house.
In his statement to the police, Fakruddin said that the boy’s mother Kalavathi, had come to his shop three days before the incident to refill a cylinder. He had charged Rs 900 to do the job.
Kalavathi, however, alleged that the cylinder was refilled only on Thursday evening and it was Fakruddin’s negligence that resulted in the leak.
Sameer’s body was handed over to the family on Saturday after autopsy.
Kalavathi, hails from Nepal and works as a domestic help in Bengaluru. She had come to the city four years ago.
