Putin Lays Flowers at Fort Richardson Memorial Cemetery, Meets Orthodox Archbishop in Alaska

During his historic visit to Alaska, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Archbishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska, a senior leader of the Orthodox Church in America. In a meaningful gesture of spiritual and cultural respect, Putin presented the Archbishop with an icon of St. Herman of Alaska, the Orthodox patron saint of America and one of the continent’s earliest Orthodox missionaries.
