Diwali Laxmi Puja 2022: Check city-wise puja muhurat, samagri, dos and don'ts to be followed

Diwali is a major festival celebrated by Hindus worldwide. Laxmi Puja is an important ritual during the Diwali festival, but it should be performed at an appropriate Diwali Puja Muhurat while considering fixed Lagna (Sthir lagna), Pradosh time, and the Diwali Puja Muhurat.


Diwali, one of the most beloved and awaited Hindu festivals, has arrived. It's a festive season with brightly lit streets, guilt-free sugar binges, and festive vibes. Diwali is deeply rooted in the religious and spiritual beliefs of Indians. The holy festival is held in the month of Kartik. It is a five-day festival during which people exchange gifts and sweets and exchange good wishes for money, happiness, health, and prosperity. 

Puja rituals are an important part of any Hindu festival. On Diwali, the Goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Ganesh Ji are specifically worshipped, and they are requested to grant the household happiness, prosperity, wisdom, peace, and progress. Individuals who perform Laxmi puja on this day are blessed with wealth all year; however, there are some things to consider before performing puja. Also, Muharat plays an important role while performing Laxmi puja. Follow below the muhurat of Laxmi Puja and dos and don'ts to remember for a prosperous Diwali Laxmi Puja.

Know Puja Muhura of Diwali Laxmi Puja 2022: 
1) Amavasya Tithi begins - October 24, 2022, at 05:27 pm
2) Amavasya Tithi ends - October 24, 2022, at 06:53 pm
3) Laxmi Puja Muhurat - 06:53 pm to 08:16 pm
4) Pradosh Kaal - 05:43 pm to 08:16 pm
5) Vrishabha Kaal - 06:53 pm to 08:48 pm

The Diwali Puja Muhurat varies according to location. According to Drik Panchang, the Puja Muhurat in various cities are as follows:
1) Pune - 07:23 pm to 08:35 pm 
2) New Delhi - 06:53 pm to 08:16 pm
3) Chennai - 07:06 pm to 08:13 pm
4) Jaipur - 07:02 pm to 08:23 pm
5) Hyderabad - 07:06 pm to 08:17 pm

Know Puja Samagri of Diwali Laxmi Puja 2022: 
Kumkum, Turmeric, Chandan, Chawal (Rice), Incense stick, Laung (Cloves), Elaichi (Cardamom), Supari (Areca Nut), Kapoor, Panchamrit (Mixture of Milk, Curd, Ghee, Sugar Powder and Honey), Patasha (Sugar Batashe), Peeli Sarso (Yellow mustard seeds), Kamal Gatta (Lotus Flower Seeds), Lotus Flower, Fruits, Kapoor, Dhoop, Itra (Perfume), Coins, Flowers, Sweets, Maala (Garland), Cash, Books of account (Bank Passbook), Moli (holy Red thread), Paan Leaves, Food items such as Halwa, Puri-kheer etc.

Know dos of Diwali Laxmi Puja 2022: 
1) Place the Diwali puja altar in the northeast corner of your home or place of business. The idols placed for the puja must face east. Puja participants must sit with their backs to the north.

2) Keep your home and office tidy, clean, and well-lit during the Diwali celebrations. Goddess Lakshmi favours clean environments and bestows her blessings on well-kept homes and businesses.

3) Put valuable items in the puja, such as gold, silver, diamonds, etc. This act may bring you good fortune. Items, account books, and other objects related to your business or studies should also be included in the puja.

4) Place a full, unpeeled coconut over the Mangalik Kalash on either side of the front door to bring success, money, and happiness to your home. This is considered lucky.

5) Ensure that the Diwali puja is done during the Pradosh Kaal. Place the idol on a table or a small floor exhibit. On the table is a freshly cleaned and ironed red cloth. Arrange a few handfuls of rice grains in the centre of the red cloth. Then, using clean water, wash and wipe the idol. Place the idol on the Kalash after wiping it.

Know don'ts of Diwali Laxmi Puja 2022: 
1) Do not gift anyone leather goods, sharp-edged items, or crackers during the festival. It is considered unlucky, so avoid gifting these items.

2) Never cook or eat non-vegetarian foods at home, and avoid alcohol during Diwali.

3) As Goddess Lakshmi is said to despise loud noises, refrain from clapping while performing Lakshmi aarti. Never shout or sing loudly during the puja.

4) Do not engage in any money-related activities. Never take loans or borrow money during the Diwali festival. Never give anything to anyone after sundown. While giving to the less fortunate is noble during the Diwali holiday, you should never do so during the Pradosh Kaal or the two hours immediately following sunset.

5) Never leave the Diwali puja site unattended all night so that the lamp you light has a steady supply of ghee or oil to burn.
