Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has blamed the Pakistan Army for leaking target information that led to the deaths of Masood Azhar’s family members during Indian strikes, calling the army “traitorous” and urging Islamists to reject it.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has issued a rare and strongly worded statement blaming the Pakistan Army for the killing of civilians, including family members of top Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar, during the recent India-Pakistan tensions.

In a public note dated May 8, 2025, TTP spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani expressed sorrow and grief over what it called a “tragic incident” in which civilians were “martyred at various places.” The group directly accused Pakistan’s ‘pro-Western and traitorous army’ of the deaths of Masood Azhar's family members and aides .

TTP said that the Pakistan Army has a long history of betraying Islamist groups, calling it a “murderous” force with “hands stained with the blood of Afghans, scholars, and Mujahideen.” The group also condemned the military for arresting Mujahideen and handing them over to “infidels.”

The statement calls on the people of Pakistan, especially religious leaders and the Islamist community, to reject the “delusions” of the Pakistan Army and see its role in the latest tragedy.

India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary has said India is not seeking escalation but would respond appropriately to further provocation. He also condemned Pakistan for targeting civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, including shelling that killed 16 people and a strike on a gurdwara in Poonch that killed three Sikhs.

Misri called out Pakistan’s record on terrorism, reminding reporters of Osama bin Laden’s presence there and its sheltering of UN-proscribed terrorists. He said Pakistan’s state honours for some killed in Indian strikes were disturbing.

India, he said, remains committed to restraint—but made it clear that further Pakistani aggression will not go unanswered.
