Hyderabad: 12-year-old kills mother over money, flees

FollowIn a shocking incident, a 12-year old boy killed his mother on Saturday night after they fought over money. Ragpickers by profession, 40-year old K Renuka and her son had this as the only means of earning after the death of the man of the household 10 years ago. The mother-son duo were picking rags and scrap and were selling it off for a living. Since the boy was minor, the mother took his share of earning too, which the son did not like.
Often, the boy did not give his mother his share of money and they argued. On that ill-fated day too, the duo had a heated argument over the money he wanted to keep and use. So, when Renuka asked him to hand over the money to her, in a fit of rage, her son took a kitchen knife and slit his mother's throat. Neighbours found Renuka in a pool of blood and alerted the police on Sunday.
Speaking to the Deccan chronicle, Mangalhat inspector A. Sanjeeva Rao said, "The incident could have happened sometime at night. The boy is not at home. We suspect that he fled after killing his mother."
Meanwhile, Renuka's brother Ganesh registered a complaint with the police and they have registered the case under murder and under the Juvenile Justice Act. Renuka's body was handed over to her relatives after post-mortem.
