Vodafone offers 4GB 4G data for Rs 250: Jio effect is a win-win for consumers

FollowNews has it that the Reliance Jio 4G free run may not end on March 31 as subscribers will continue to enjoy the benefits as the company is believed to be working on a new tariff plan. It may stretch until 30 June.
Whether we love or hate Jio, plan to use even after the free run or not, there is no denying that it has been a win-win for consumers. In India, 3G penetration was rather slow and by the time it accelerated pace, the 4G drive had begun. The slow push was owing to factors like awareness and affordability. But, Reliance Jio has changed the game. Though Jio has been grappling with quality issues, by large it has benefited us all. Yes, even the ones who don’t own a Jio SIM.
While Reliance kept our data bills at bay, other telcos have also geared up with lucrative offers to retain users. For instance, the latest comes from Vodafone. As a subscriber I recently paid Rs 450 for 2GB 4G booster, post the 1.5GB data that comes bundled in the Rs 699 package. If you look at Vodafone Internet packs in the Karnataka circle, it is roughly Rs 265 for 1.5GB.

However, the new announcement brings 1GB 4G data for Rs 150, 4GB at Rs 250, 22GB at Rs 999 and 35GB at Rs 1500. Needless to say, the changed prices are nothing but the Jio effect. This means 9GB 4G data would now cost Rs 450, the same price that got me 2GB 4G booster.
And, it is not just Vodafone. BSNL has launched a new, affordable ₹144 plan for its customers. It offered unlimited local and STD calls at ₹144. Airtel had offered similar packs with free local and STD calls. It had put forth two offers - ₹145 and ₹345. Idea recently announced that it has partnered with Flipkart to offer 15GB data for the price of 1GB to Idea customers who purchase 4G smartphones on Flipkart. It can be availed thrice till March 31, 2017.
Telcos have been churning out offers to combat Jio, which eventually is a win-win for consumers.
