Ban WhatsApp, demands PIL in Supreme Court

 

Haryana-based RTI activist Sudhir Yadav has filed a PIL in Supreme Court seeking a ban on messaging apps as they allegedly cause a "security threat" to the nation.  

 

WhatsApp, which is massively popular in the country, is also being used for criminal and terrorist activities, Yadav’s PIL alleges.

 

Secret encryptions in WhatsApp are being used by criminals and terrorists for encouraging anti-social activities and carrying out their agendas, the PIL continues.

 

Moreover, since WhatsApp now has end-to-end encryption, conversations details are not accessible to anybody except the chatters.

This makes it the ideal platform for antisocial elements to exchange information.

 

 

The court is likely to take up the case on June 29.
