Pay ₹19 and port your number to Reliance Jio

 

Reliance Jio has dropped yet another bomb on other service providers in India by announcing their dirt-cheap number portability service - which is priced at ₹19. Mukesh Ambani has said that services will be activated from September 5, and the window for users to port the network for the three-month free subscription will be open until December 31. 

 

The announcement is probably yet another shocker for service providers like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, etc.

 

Fearing the competition, BSNL had also cut its internet tariff by a huge margin yesterday. Now, 1 GB of internet usage on a BSNL wireline network will cost lesser than a rupee to users.

 

Jio's setup will allow users to switch their sim cards of any network to Reliance Jio within seven working days. The four-step procedure to port the number is the same as for other networks (except for the price):

 

1. Users have to SMS 'Port' to the number 1900.

 

2. The user will receive a porting ID from the number 1901.

 

3. With this porting ID, after the required documents are submitted at a Reliance mobile store or a retailer's outlet, a new sim card will be provided. A fee of ₹19 will be charged for the new sim.

 

4. This sim card will be activated in seven to nine working days.
