ONGC plansto construct wells in tamil nadu

Once it was proudly said that the farmers’ fields harvest gold. The condition has been reversed and the farmers are now engaged on various protests to save agriculture. Cauvery delta is the main storehouse of wheat. 110 such places, including the Cauvery delta, are chosen for the drilling of oil wells.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is planning to produce the country’s total energy resource through oil and natural gas.

ONGC has decided to increase hydrocarbon consumption by 27% from current 22% by 2030, as the demand for petroleum products is growing rapidly. The process of drilling oil wells has already been started in the places that are known for its rich fertile river beds. It has created a wave of shock that the farmers are staging the protests in various places.

From the various states of Delta, wells have been drilled, and the crude oil and natural gas have been extracted though the pipes to the warehouse. Refinery process takes place in the warehouses. It has then been made into petrol, diesel and kerosene and was exported worldwide. It should be noted that, right when ONGC is already facing many oppositions, it has further planned to set up well in 110 places.

The ONGC has found 20 acres of land in a village called Madhanam in the Nagerkoil district and has planned to set up wells as in Narimanam and Kuthalam, 20 wells are said to be built here.

The Ministry of Power has decided to set wells in the following places:

5 in Kaali, 10 in Kuthalam, 10 in Narimanam, 5 in Adiyakkamangalam, 3 in Kilvelur, 5 in Nannilam, 4 in Adichapuram, 10 in Vadakukovilkadapa, 3 in Mathur, 10 in Pandanallur, 10 in Kanchirankudi, 10 in Perungulam’s Periyapattinam, 5 in the roof of Pak Jalasandhi.

In 1885, the drilling process begun in the Cauvery Delta region, whereas, the wells were set up at Ramnad district in 1994. Two hectares of land is required for one well. It would incur 12 to 15 crore. It takes 65 to 75 days to dig up a well. R.S Sharma of ONGC has said an amount of 50 crore would be invested on the extraction of crude oil and natural gas.

People are already against the Neduvasal hydrocarbon project and Kathiramangalam crude oil project. Meanwhile, the setting up of 110 wells has been initiated by the ONGC. It should be noted that this project await the approval of The Ministry of Environment & Forests.
