Vijender Singh hails Farhan Akhtar's 'Toofaan' for bringing boxing into limelight

Famous professional Indian boxer Vijender Singh has praised Farhan Akhtar and his upcoming movie 'Toofaan'. Vijender hailed the latter's performance in the film, besides crediting him for bringing the sport of boxing into the limelight.

The teaser for 'Toofan' was released a few days back, received well by fans and critics. The movie is based on a national-level boxer and his rise to stardom.

Following the teaser's success, Vijender took to his Twitter to praise Akhtar and the movie makers. "The teaser looks awesome! Thanks for putting boxing on the map. All the best @FarOutAkhtar @ROMPPictures @FarOutAkhtar @ritesh_sid @excelmovies @RakeyshOmMehra," he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Akhtar, too, expressed his gratitude for the love shown by Vijender with a reply. "Thank you, @boxervijender. Map par toh aapne aur aap jaise desh ko represent karnewale har ek boxer ne daala hai. Aap hain toh Toofaan hai," he replied. It translates to "Each boxer who has represented the country has put it on the map. You are a hurricane".]

'Toofan' would be Akhtar's second significant sports movie following his commendable success with 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', co-produced by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. As for the producers of 'Toofan', it includes Ritesh Sidhwani as well, adjacent to Mehra and Akhtar himself, while Mehra has directed the movie.

Akhtar would play the lead role, alongside Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in other prominent roles. The movie would be released on May 21, on Amazon Prime Video.

As for Vijender, the Indian boxer has represented the nation across global tournaments and is an Olympic bronze medalist. Besides, he has also won silvers, while he won gold at the Asian Games 2010. Since 2015, he is into professional boxing and has a 12-0 record so far, while he had won the WBO Asia Pacific super-middleweight title.
