The main event of the UFC 264 between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor ended in a freak manner after the latter suffered a horrible leg injury, snapping his ankle. Following the opening round, the former was declared the winner via Technical knockout (doctor stoppage).

At the sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, it was an intense fight between the two in the opening round, exchanging wild punches and kicks. At the closing stages of the round, McGregor missed landing his left-handed punch on Poirier while balancing his left leg behind as he twisted his ankle, which snapped in the process.

Although the former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion managed to see it through until the hooter sounded for the first round to end, he immediately collapsed, forcing the fight to be called off. As the doctors were called in, after lengthy supervision, the former interim UFC Lightweight Champion was handed the win.

Naturally, the Irish was unhappy in how it ended, in what was deemed the final chapter of his rivalry with the American. However, he asserted that this is not over.

“I was boxing the bleedin’ head off him. Kicking the bleedin’ leg off him. He’s dived to close the distance. This is not over! If I have to take this outside with him, it’s on outside. I don’t give a b*llocks,” he said during the in-ring reaction.

As both exchanged some heated words following the bout, Poirier had to be held by his team, especially after McGregor’s comment on his wife. “Shut your b**** a** up. This guy’s a dirtbag. Karma’s not a b****; she’s a mirror. This guy has said the wrong s*** and I’ve been busting my a**. And sometimes, these things happen. I beat the guy,” he said.

Meanwhile, UFC President too expressed his dissatisfaction over the event. “It sucks; it’s brutal. It’s not the way you want to see fights end. Dustin Poirier will fight for the title, and when Conor’s healed and ready to go, you do the rematch, I guess. I don’t know,” he stated.
