India is still celebrating its best-ever success from the just-concluded Tokyo Olympics. However, the focus is already shifting to the next version, the Tokyo Paralympics, set to commence from August 24.

A total of 54 Indian athletes are set to take part in it, as they were given a warm send-off on Thursday in New Delhi, in the presence of Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. The delegation is being considered as one of the best, with medal prospects like Devendra Jhajharia and Sandeep Choudhary (javelin throw), along with Mariyappan Thangavelu (high jump).

India would be competing in nine sports, while Thangavelu is scheduled to be the flag-bearer during the opening ceremony. Meanwhile, Thakur said some words of inspiration to the athletes via a video message.

"The ambition and self-confidence of our para-athletes give inspiration to 1.3 billion Indians. In front of their courage, the biggest of challenges bow. And, they deserve every bit of it. The number of our para-athletes participating in the upcoming Games is three times bigger than the last edition. I have full faith in your abilities. I believe that your performance too will be better than last time," he said.

Thakur also asserted that PrimeMinister Narendra Modi would inspire and cheer for the Indian para-athletes, as he did during the Tokyo Olympics. Also, Deepa Malik (president of the Paralympic Committee of India) inspired the athletes by her words.

She said that the Games would not exactly be the same after the Tokyo Paralympics gets over, reports PTI. However, she backed the athletes to register record medal hauls, as she feels they are in their peak form.
