The Tokyo Olympics saw India put on its best performance, bagging seven medals. Now, the focus would shift to the Tokyo Paralympics, which gets underway from August 24.

India is sending a 54-member team to the Games. Ahead of their departure, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with ten members of the Tokyo-bound Indian contingent and inspired them by referring to them as "winners and role models".

Modi praised the athletes by saying that despite all the challenges in their lives, they did not give up and kept fighting. They kept fighting against all odds and have reached this stage through sheer hard work and determination, as they now prepare to represent the nation at the grandest stage.

He reckoned that being winners and role models, they should never be under pressure. He wished them to give their best, while medals would follow, besides making the country proud.

The para-athletes were also inspired by Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, mentioning their imposing performances at the international level of late. While India has won 12 medals to date in the Paralympics, he expects the Indians to give their best, besides winning further laurels for the nation.
