India's hopes of a medal in archery in the Tokyo Olympics stayed alive after top female archer Deepika Kumari qualified for the pre-quarters on Wednesday. She secured twin wins on the day, beating Bhutan's Karma 6-0 and Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez of the United States of America (6-4).

She started the day with a flawless performance against Karma as the latter could manage 23, 23 and 24. Although Deepika began gradually, she hit 26, 26 and 32 to seal her place in the following round.

In the next round, it was somewhat tricky against Mucino-Fernandez, as Deepika hit the red zone, including a seven in the opening set and lost it by a point. Nonetheless, she bounced back in style in the subsequent set, hitting three tens and taking a 4-2 lead.
