The Tokyo Olympics continue to punish the Indians, as the same story continues in archery. In the men's individual round, Pravin Jadhav was knocked out in Round 2 by the reigning world champion, America's Brady Ellison, on Wednesday.

He started well in his opening match against world number two, Galsan Bazarzhapov of Russia, beating him 6-0 in straight sets. However, he was up against Ellison in the next round, which was always going to be difficult for the 25-year-old Olympic debutant.

Moreover, even Ellison was not really at his best, especially in the second and third set, firing a couple of eights. However, Jadhav was undoubtedly under pressure and misfired with a couple of sevens and eights.

Against Bazarzhapov, he dropped just a point to win the opening set despite the solid windy conditions at the Yumenoshima Park. Although the Russian tried to fight back with a couple of tens, the wind forced him to fire 7-8-7, while the Indian kept hitting nines and tens.

While Jadhav looked to come up with a similar 29-28-27 in the second round against Ellison, who fired 28-27-26, the former's lack of experience got the better of him. The Indian could fire just 27-26-23, handing the American an easy win.

Earlier, Tarundeep Rai was knocked out in Round 2 of the same, losing to Isreal's Itay Shanny, while he had beaten Muto Hiroki of Japan in the opening round. In the meantime, Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari are the only individuals remaining in contentions.
