The timing of the movie has turned out to be perfect as it will also celebrate nine long years of Dhoni's innings as the Indian skipper.

People could only imagine the young Dhoni, who stood at the centre tossing the coin for the first time on September 29, 2007, would take India's fate all the way through winning all the ICC trophies.

The wicket keeper-batsman made his captaincy debut in the 50-over format during India's home series against Australia where both the sides played seven ODIs. Although India ended on the losing side, they found a leader who eventually would go on to become one of the best in the world.

Player No. of ODIs Wins Loss Tied %
Ricky Ponting 230 165 51 2 76.14
Stephen Fleming 218 98 106 1 48.04
MS Dhoni 194 107 72 4 59.56

There is no denying that 'cricket is religion in India,' as there are only a few people in India among the population of 1.2 billion whose heart does not beat for the game.

Whenever Dhoni and Co brought glory to India, Captain Cool became their hero. When the results didn't fall India's way, Dhoni was treated like a criminal; even stones were often pelted at his house in Ranchi.

Dhoni once said taking a dig at his 'hypocrite' fans, "I have three dogs at home. Even after losing a series or winning a series, they treat me the same way."

However, the indifferent behaviour towards him on certain occasions did not trigger Dhoni, probably the calmest ever skipper in cricket, and his urge to serve the nation remained the same.

The path to the top-most level in cricket was not a cake walk for the Ranchi boy, who began his career as a ticket collector. The movie will unfold the numerous hurdles that could not stop the making of one of the legends of Indian cricket. The journey, that had not just given Indian cricket fans but also to many others from different parts of the world  --the lovable "Mahi"-- would be a treat to watch on the big screen.

Dhoni's life changed overnight when he led an inexperienced Indian side to a triumph in the inaugural edition of the World T20 in 2007. He became a household name, and suddenly India found a new hero after their craze for the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar, whose decorated career was deprived of one trophy - the ICC Cricket World Cup - Dhoni even fulfilled that. India lifted the ICC World Cup after 28 years and also became the first country to win it on their home soil.

"Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent strike into the crowd! India lift the World Cup after 28 years!” screamed Ravi Shastri from the commentary box.

Sushant Singh, the 'reel MS Dhoni', will allow the 'Mahi' fans around the globe to relive that moment. Dhoni was the player of the match in the final and his winning six is still as fresh in mind for his fans.

This movie gives us a chance to closely know the man who has given us an immense number of moments of the sport to cherish. He has carried the nation on his shoulders for nine years now, and the early white hair and beard testifies the amount of stress and pressure he soaks, quietly and just by himself.
