Raina will finally miss IPL game for the birth of his child

Suresh Raina may miss IPL match

Suresh Raina's enviable record of not missing even a single IPL match may soon be shattered as the Gujarat Lions skipper is scheduled to head to Holland on Monday for the impending birth of his first child.

"I’m flying to Holland to meet my wife tomorrow and I’m all excited,” Raina said at the post-match conference at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Since 2007, the year of inception of IPL, Raina has played 143 consecutive matches and accumulated a record 3985 runs at an average of 33.48.

He was a key member of the all-conquering, and now defunct, Chennai Super Kings for the first seven years, after which he was named captain of the new franchise, Gujarat Lions.

In Raina’s non-availability, either Brendon McCullum or Aaron Finch could lead Lions in their next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on May 14.
