India is familiar with several sports leagues like Indian Premier League, Premier Badminton League, Pro Wrestling League, Pro Kabaddi League and more. But we have never had an e-league in India and entertainment entrepreneur and founder of UTV, Ronnie Screwvala is making it happen.

The philanthropist tycoon is all set to launch an electronic sports league named – UCypher. In this tournament, 10 teams, comprising of 12 players each will engage themselves in fierce battles in PC, consoles and mobile games’ league.

 

Screwvala is all set to take sports digital as well. USports, which is owned by Screwvala, has already allocated ₹80-100 crore to spend on this league. It is true that the there are several leagues like UCypher in Europe, South Korea and in the US but it has never made it to India and Screwvala has taken the onus on his shoulder to revamp the s[ports culture in India.

The entertainment big shot has confirmed that he is going to launch the first season of UCypher in May 2017 and there will be a second season of this electronic sports league as well. If the first two seasons turn out to be successful then it will continue and in return it can shape the future of Indian gaming.

 

USports CEO Supratik Sen has stated that they have been scouting for quite some time now and so far they tracked over 1600 teams. Out of which, they got it down to 100 and from there they have selected 10 teams which have made it to the league.

However, Indian television audience have not warmed up to electronic sports leagues as of yet but USports is confident that with time things will change for good in near future.
