There may soon be a three-week-long 'mini IPL' in the US involving all the eight franchises, BCCI sources have revealed.

“Space can be created in the cricket calendar because the T20 Champions League has been scrapped. We are proposing that all eight teams participate in the mini-IPL. The venue has not been finalised, but the US is one of the options,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by a news agency.
Discussed during the ongoing BCCI conclave in Dharamsala, the mini IPL could also be conducted in the UAE - which also hosted IPL 7 - the source added.
The initial proposal, last year, was to hold a four-franchise league-cum-knockout tournament in the UAE to tap the large Indian diaspora in the region.
“Teams have been sounded about the proposal to conduct the mini-IPL. They are keen to broaden their fan base and increase the popularity of the league in other parts of the world, too,” the official concluded.
