Last chance for Mary Kom to make Rio Games
India's star boxer Mary Kom, who failed to make the Rio Olympics cut at a recent qualifying event, has been thrown another lifeline.
The Boxing Federation of India has decided to appeal for a wildcard for Mary Kom for the upcoming Summer Olympics in August on the basis of "her contribution to the sport".
The wildcard is handed out by the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA).
Mary Kom, in Astana last month, lost in the second round of the 51 kilogram category to Germany's Azize Nimani, ruling out her chances for a direct qualification for the Rio Games.
