Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi has been in the headlines for the past couple of weeks after winning the Copa America 2021 with his national side. It was the first time he had won an international title since winning the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold.

Messi overpowered his Portuguese rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed to lead his side to defend the UEFA Euro crown at the same time. While Portugal was knocked out in the pre-quarters, Italy went on to win the crown.

Meanwhile, following the Copa win, Messi scripted quite a few records, while some were even related to Ronaldo. One of the Ronaldo records that he recently broke was not considering his professional achievement, but social media.

Messi had shared the picture of him with the Copa title, captioned, "What a beautiful madness! This is unbelievable! Thank you, God! We are the champions!". The picture garnered over 20 million likes, surpassing the previous record held by Ronaldo (19.8 million), which happened to be the latter's tribute to the late Argentine great Diego Maradona.

"Today, I'm saying goodbye to a friend and the world is saying goodbye to an eternal genius. One of the best of all time. An unparalleled magician. He leaves too soon, but he leaves a legacy without limits and an emptiness that will never be filled. Rest in peace, ace. You will never be forgotten," Ronaldo had captioned in that post.

In the meantime, Messi also was adjudged the best player of Copa this term after four goals and five assists. Also, he is expected to sign a new contract with Barcelona soon, with a 50% pay cut, despite speculations that he is willing to leave Camp Nou.
