Lionel Messi and Barcelona begin negotiations for new contract: Report

Lionel Messi is an Argentine superstar footballer who remains one of the modern-day greats alongside Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo. He has made a name for himself playing at Barcelona for the significant part of his career, as he continues to do so.

However, Barca's unreliable performance of late has led to Messi reconsidering his future with the club, with his current contract slated to run out at the end of the ongoing season. Consequently, he has been linked to numerous top clubs, primarily with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, according to the latest report by Spanish media house Sport, Messi and Barcelona have entered into fresh negotiations over a new contract. The first round of the same was held between club president Joan Laporta and Messi's father cum agent Jorge.

The report states that the contract details were minutely explained and both parties seemingly agreed to it. However, the final round of the same would be decided upon an exhaustive internal audit, based on the club's current financial stance.

Also, it is being contemplated that the contract is prepared to keep Messi at Camp Nou for life. Messi has repeatedly stated that the prospects are of more excellent value than the money and would be willing to stay if those sound promising enough.

As per this report, it seems like Messi is edging closer to stay with the Catalan. However, there is still a long way to go before he inks the deal again, while City and PSG continue to monitor the situation closely.
