Chasing a 256-run target set by SRH, RCB openers Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli provided a fiery start to the visitors, racing to 60/0 in 4.2 overs before the former’s dismissal for 44 at 60/1. Thereafter, Virat Kohli was joined by Devdutt Padikkal at the crease to carry on RCB’s run chase.

Kohli and Head’s War of Words

As Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s run chase hit a massive roadblock with quick wickets, the atmosphere grew incredibly tense. Virat Kohli and Travis Head grabbed the attention of the spectators at the stadium with their verbal altercation, which quickly went viral across social media.

The incident took place during the change of overs when Head, who was stationed at cover, appeared to have passed a message to Ishan Kishan and the bowlers as he crossed paths with the former RCB skipper. Kohli, who is known for his fiery persona and aggressive demeanour, was not pleased with the Australian batter’s antics and reacted instantly.

Kohli appeared to be telling Head to bowl a few overs himself if he had so much advice to give to the players on the field. Then, the Indian star batter gestured with his hand nd seemed visibly charged up as he made his feelings known. However, the Australian batter was giving facial expressions to Kohli, trying to play it cool and shrug off the veteran's anger as if it didn't bother him.

Earlier, Virat Kohli was pumped up after Rasikh Salam Dar delivered a searing yorker that completely deceived Travis Head and shattered the stumps in the fourth over of the first innings. Head, who had just smashed three consecutive boundaries off Dar, looked completely turned inside out as the ball crashed into the timber.

RCB Finished as Table Toppers and Secured a Qualifier 1 Spot

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished as table toppers and secured Qualifier 1 spot after Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to restrict the target within the required margin, to overtake RCB and GT’s NRR, shaking up the final standings.

Despite the loss in this final league stage encounter, RCB's dominant run throughout the season ensured they maintained their position at the apex of the points table. With a 256-run target, RCB were restricted to 200/4 in 20 overs, despite a fifty by skipper Rajat Patidar and a fiery 41-run knock by Krunal Pandya.

However, the defeat did little to damage RCB's playoff advantages, as their superior Net Run Rate (NRR) kept them firmly rooted at the top step of the ladder. SRH’s massive 255-run total gave them a comprehensive victory on the night, but it wasn't quite enough of a margin to leapfrog the league leaders or Gujarat Titans in the final calculations.
