England's Cook breaks Tendulkar's record

Alastair Cook achieved the feat on the fourth day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street here, also becoming the first England player to reach the 10,000-run mark in the longest format.
 

At 31 years and 157 days, Cook is about five months faster to the honour than Sachin Tendulkar, who was 31 years and 326 days when he reached the milestone against Pakistan in Kolkata on March 16, 2005. While it took Tendulkar 195 innings, Cook has needed 226.
 

Sunny Gavaskar: The first to get there

Cook is also only the 12th player history, and only the second opener after Sunil Gavaskar, to score 10,000 Test runs. He is the only active batsman in the 10k club, which includes legends such as Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid, Mahela Jayawardene, Sunil Gavaskar, Jacques Kallis, Allan Border, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Steve Waugh.
