7 Reasons why Indian cricket will never be the same again

The Indian cricket team was right on top of their game in 2016. They are the no. 1 team in Test, no. 2 in T20 and no.3 in ODI rankings. The U-19 team recently lifted the Asia Cup. The Indian Women’s Cricket Team too won the Asia Cup. Yet the Supreme Court decided to sack BCCI president Anurag Thakur and Secretary Ajay Shirke.

The timeline of the battle between Lodha Committee and BCCI have been going since the beginning of 2015 and now the latter has been bounced out. The reason stated by Justice TS Thakur on Monday was that the Apex Court was not happy with the high-handed and defiant attitude of BCCI top brass. India Cricket’s governing body even failed to “fall in line” with the Lodha Panel recommendations.

Supreme Court has appointed former Solicitor General of India and senior lawyer Fali Nariman and Gopal Subramanium to suggest a new man to look after the Board’s affairs from the hot seat. Until then, two senior vice-presidents will look after BCCI’s affairs.

 

Now, where will Indian Cricket head from here? Here’s what one can expect from a freshly-appointed officials of BCCI:

 

** Ministers and Babus will not find a place in BCCI. It is likely to be one of the most clean governing bodies.

 

** All the recommendations suggested by the Lodha Panel will be implemented.

 

** Lodha Panel will continue to monitor Board’s activities.

 

** BCCI is likely to be under RTI ambit.

 

** IPL is likely to undergo a makeover.

 

** Considering the amount of scandal that has hit the most popular and entertaining T20 league in the world, IPL may shut shop as well if the recommendations are not followed.

 

** Will this change affect the players and their form? Ideally it should not because the players have got nothing to do with this unless and until there is an issue with their payments.
