Sergio Aguero has made a high-profile move to La Liga giant Barcelona on a two-year deal. The club announced the same on Monday night, stating that his contract is set to run until the 2022-23 season end, starting July 1, while his buy-out clause during this phase happens to be €100 million.

Barca would be Aguero’s second stint in La Liga. He had earlier played for current champion Atletico Madrid between 2006-11, scoring 27 goals in 41 games, besides winning a couple of titles (UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup).

“I want to show here what I have shown at City. It is an immense joy because since I was a kid, and even more so now with Messi, I have thought that Barça is the best club in the world. Any player that’s offered the chance to play at Barça will come running. I’ll try to do my best to help the club to win big things,” he told the club after signing the contract on Monday night.

Aguero also said that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who had once managed Barca, told him that he was joining one of the best clubs in the world. The Argentine had also spoken to his national teammate Lionel Messi and is looking forward to playing alongside him again.

“I hope we can play together. But, the thing with Leo is that he will make decisions with the club. I have been with him since a kid with the national team, I know him very well, and I think he’ll stay here. We’ll try to do the best we can for the club,” he added.

Meanwhile, Barca president Joan Laporta hailed Aguero’s signing and said, “We came here to being back some joy to Barça fans, and I understand that having you here today, Sergio, will bring us that joy. We’ve welcomed you with a tango, a very exciting dance, just like you, because we know you’ll score a lot of goals for Barça.”
