Indian long jumper Ancy Sojan is one of the medallists for the country in track and field at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya. Ancy clinched the silver in the women’s long jump event with her best leap of 6.53 m in the final, surpassing several strong competitors to claim a well-deserved medal for India.
China’s Huang Yingying took home the gold medal with her best leap of 6.55m, while her compatriot Tan Mengyi settled for bronze with a 6.46 m jump, narrowly edging out India's Shaili Singh, who finished fourth. Ancy Sojan contributed to India’s four medals in athletics on Day 8 of the event.
This was her second medal at the Asian Games 2026, as she won the silver medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, where she had similarly secured a second-place finish with an impressive performance.

As Ancy Sojan won her second consecutive silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games, the Indian long jumper expressed her wish to receive a call from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay.
The 25-year-old, who hails from Nattika in Thrissur district of Kerala, is an ardent fan of an actor-turned-politician whose party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), won the Tamil Nadu elections and swept the state polls to form the government, with Vijay taking the oath as the state's Chief Minister.
In a video posted by Sony Sports Network, Ancy Sojan expressed her wish to get a call from the Tamil Nadu chief minister, adding that his motivation gives her tremendous motivation and energy.
“I wish I can get a call from him (Vijay). I like his motivation. I will be very happy if I can get a call from him,” Ancy said.
