Pregnant Odisha woman dies in Kochi

A woman from Odisha died of burn injuries in Kochi after three hospitals denied treatment citing non-availability of isolation ward. The pregnant woman had suffered burns while cooking at her home.

Thilotima, a native of Odisha was brought to the hospital after she suffered burns on March 11. She was first admitted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Later she was referred to a hospital in Kochi for advanced treatment.

Though the family members took her to three different hospitals in the city, none of them was ready to take her in. The hospitals cited the non-availability of isolation ward as a reason for rejecting admission to the woman.

As the news spread, the District Collector intervened and she was admitted to Ernakulam Medical Centre. The woman had suffered 50% burns. However, the woman died her last on Friday night.
