Giving more weight to the reports that the non-Congress parties were planning a grand alliance against the BJP in the 2019 general elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Kerala House in Delhi on Wednesday morning. The Chief Ministers held discussions over breakfast and the meeting lasted for over half an hour. The meeting holds significance in the context of the CPM’s attempts to field a consensus candidate in the upcoming President’s election.

Speaking to media persons after the breakfast meeting, the Chief Ministers revealed that they discussed the ‘sense of fear prevailing in the country.’ Both the leaders stressed the need for ‘all the good people to join hands to’ fight it.

"You see politics in everything,” said Kejriwal when asked whether it was the beginning of a new political alliance.  “Actually it is a pleasure meeting honourable Chief Minister. He is a very good human being and a statesman. So I hope that this relationship will continue" Kejriwal said after meeting Pinarayi Vijayan.

“No voice of dissent is tolerated in this country,” said Kejriwal. "Everybody is living in fear in this country. Businessmen, industrialists, media persons, media houses…, everyone is afraid. This is not good. So it is important that you are with all the good people and face the situation together," the Delhi CM explained.

"It was a friendly visit. We discussed various issues, including the sense of fear prevailing in the country," Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Kerala Chief Minister criticized the centre for not treating Delhi government as an elected regime. "The centre is trying to usurp powers of the autonomous states by tampering the federal structure of the country. The threat on the states like Delhi is even more evident. The centre is trying to weaken the government in Delhi, which is highly objectionable," Vijayan said.

"Depending on Congress to fight the threat of BJP is pointless. Even the top Congress leaders are switching over to BJP camp. The CPM is always ready to join hands with secular parties in this regard," Vijayan added.
