Namma Metro earns rs40 lakh profit on New Year Eve

‘Namma Metro’ was not the usual commuters' medium of transportation on the eve of New Year. A world of delight and cheer was created inside Namma Metro rails on this special day of the year as excited party-loving crowd used the metro as the mode of travel.

On this day, the commuters were not only taken to their destinations by the Namma Metro but also to places where they welcomed the new year. Many even started the celebration inside the metro trains which also irritated some of the commuters.

Usually, metro trains don’t run after 10 p.m. in the night. But on the eve of New Year, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) opened the trains of east-west corridor till 2 a.m. in the midnight as people from across the city were heading towards MG Road and Brigade Road to celebrate the occasion.

More than 2 lakh commuters travelled in a single day for the first time in the history of BMRCL on the eve of New Year. The sources of BMRCL confirmed that 2,09,732 people travelled on Saturday, 31st December 2016 and the BMRCL earned a profit of ₹ 39,60,453/-.

In spite of the expected mob on the eve of New Year, the BMRCL did not allot additional security guards in the Metro Stations. Consequently, long queues were seen in many metro stations of East-West corridor, particularly between Majestic to Trinity Circle.
