Heat wave takes a toll on infants 88 babies admitted to VIMS

According to the doctors here, dehydration is common during summer. Since newborns won’t be in a position to take the heat, they are the worst victims. This year, situation has worsened in the region, reports Prajavani.

New mothers from various parts of Ballari and even Andhra Pradesh have admitted their infants at the hospital. But sadly, there are not much beds available for these babies. With no other alternative, the mothers have laid the babies on the ground and are finding it difficult to attend to them. "Babies cry and apart from feeding them with water or milk, we don't know what to do," said a helpless mother.

The doctors have asked mothers to look out for signs of dehydration in the babies - continuous cry and inactive.
