Due to PM Modi’s currency ban, several meat sellers in the city either have shut shop, are forced to slash prices almost by half.

The scarcity of notes has brought down chicken prices from ₹ 120 per Kg and is being sold at ₹ 50. Several meat sellers even kept their shops shut on Sunday.

According to sources, the meat business has dropped down by 95%. The meat shops that remained open spotted boards – “We don’t accept ₹ 500 and ₹ 1000 notes.”

“We used to do up to ₹ 1 lakh on every Sunday. But this week we have made a business of just ₹ 15,000. Every customer is coming with old currency notes, we are accepting the notes and this has affected our business” Rafeek, a meat merchant from Russel Market said.
