A Day without a woman: Strike set for international Women's Day

It's a general strike to show what a Day without a woman would be. Though there is no clarity what a general strike means, it is in the bid to raise several questions like - do businesses support our communities, or do they drain our communities? Do they strive for gender equity or do they support the policies and leaders that perpetuate oppression? Do they align with a sustainable environment or do they profit off destruction and steal the futures of our children?

"In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman," the organisers said. Over the weeks, more information will be revealed. 

Meanwhile, the organisers have asked friends, families and neighbours to gather on 17 February for 'brainstorming ideas' on enhancing community, standing up to the administration, and integrating resistance and self care into the daily routine. "We are proud to support Strike4Democracy's #F17 National Day of Action to Push Back Against Assaults on Democratic Principles," the statement reads.

Women's March was a viral idea on social media that snowballed into a large event drawing attendees in response to the presidential inauguration. However, organisers reiterate that it isn't anti-Trump, and rather a way to send across a strong message of 'women's rights' to the administration. It was women-led, but not just for women.

The event was to rally women issues and promoted as a march, and not as a protest. Just like the march, this event is also being promoted as a voice against gender equality and in support of rights for women.
