Bengaluru: A 23-year-old employee of a food delivery service was allegedly beaten up on Monday night by the residents of a labour shed in Marathahalli, Bengaluru. They mistook him for a thief.
The victim, Liton Das, sustained severe head injuries and is being treated at St John’s Hospital.
In his complaint to the police, Das said that he had returned to his residence near the labour shed in Kariyammana Agrahara, from work at around 11.30 pm. He got into a heated argument with his roommate Biplabnath.
Biplabnath allegedly shouted ‘thief, thief’, during the argument, to prompt the neighbours to rush to his help. They attacked Das with clubs and sticks. They reportedly damaged his scooter, which was parked outside the house.
Two of his friends rushed to his aid. They were also attacked by the neighbours.
The neighbours informed the police later. They came to the spot and rescued the victim.
A police officer reportedly said that they have registered an FIR against the people who attacked Das. They have been charged for assault, wrongful restraint, causing hurt by dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation. He also went ahead to say that they suspect that Das and Biplanath had a falling out and due to this, the latter would have instigated the attack.
