V3 Vs. V4 Superchargers

V3 Superchargers are capable of delivering peak charge rates of only up to 250 kW, compared to V4 Superchargers which have the ability to charge up to 325 kW.

Tesla opened its first V4 Supercharger location in Harderwijk, the Netherlands, in March 2023 and aims to continue opening more V4 sites. In addition to providing higher-watt charging on certain vehicles, V4 superchargers are also equipped with a longer cable to allow the Tesla supercharger network to also charge rival electric vehicles.

The Tesla supercharger network is meant to aid the adoption of electric vehicles worldwide. They are ideal for long distance travel and are designed to charge Tesla vehicles quickly so drivers can get back on the road. While it was initially limited to Tesla EVs, the EV giant opened it to rivals, starting with Ford Motor Co’s EVs in the U.S. in early 2024.

According to Tesla’s latest update, the company currently has over 75,000 supercharger connectors globally. Other companies who have inked deals for their EVs to charge on the network include General Motors, Polestar, Rivian and Lucid, among others.
