The 8 lane signal free corridor at Okalipuram at a cost of Rs 102 crore will be open for public commute by December, announced Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning K J George. He was speaking at the inauguration of an underpass from Rajajinagar to Malleshwaram and Majestic. The signal free corridor will ease the traffic congestion he said.

The one way of the underpass is completed and traffic diversion has been announced to facilitate construction of the second part. The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken special interest in the signal free corridor and is looking into the progress from time to time, asking for progress reports. Even during his City tour he visited the spot, he said.

Mayor G Padmavathi said the traffic congestion at Okalipuram junction was inconveniencing the public and the signal free corridor will facilitate smooth flow of traffic. The CM and the Town Planning Minister have taken special interest in this project because of which it is going at a quick pace, she said.

K T Nagaraj, chief engineer, Basic Amenities and Planning Division, said that Rs 250 crores has been paid to the railways for acquisition of 3.2 acres of railway land for the construction of the 8 lane underpass.

KPCC executive president Dinesh Gundurao, Planning Division executive engineer Ramesh and others were present.
