Is Kolar the Gorakhpur of Karnataka 10 babies died in 15 days

When the death of scores of children due to lack of oxygen and other lack of facilities in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur is still green in the minds of people, yet another similar tragedy has come to light from Kolar. Incidentally, Kolar is the home constituency of health minister K R Ramesh Kumar.

In the last three days, three babies have died, and at least ten babies have allegedly died in 15 days in the Sri Narasimharaja District Hospital in Kolar. There were unconfirmed reports that in the last two-and-half months, at least 33 babies have died in Kolar district hospital alone!

Jayaram, a father who had lost his child told Suvarna News that there are no doctors in the hospital to treat the babies. "We are not even told what had happened to my baby. But suddenly, they announce the death of my baby," Jayaram told Suvarna News.

Dr Shivakumar, the district surgeon, denied such complaints against the hospital. "Our hospital has been declared the best hospital by the Unicef. There have been other reasons for the babies' death. The babies that have died in the last three days were due to medical complications. It is not fair to blame the hospital for such reasons," retorted Dr Shivakumar.

He even said that the infant mortality rate in the district hospital is very less as there is good team of nurses and doctors who have been trained to handle high-risk pregnancies.
