A woman from Anekal died at KIMS on Sunday night and the hospital held the body as ransom demanding more money, reported Kannada Prabha.

Hemalatha from Anekal was admitted to KIMS 25 days ago and she was under treatment at ICU. She died on Sunday night. The hospital had said they would release the body on Monday but even till evening they did not give the body to the family.

The family had already paid Rs 3 lakh for the treatment. But the hospital demanded more money for the body to be handed over.  Desperate the family sat in dharna at the hospital premises. Later the hospital relented and handed over the body. The family then took the body to Anekal for final rites.

It can be recalled that the Health Minister had announced that hospitals have been instructed not to hold back dead bodies demanding fees. In fact the hospitals have to provide free transport to shift the body.
